“Bikeman” Blumenauer profiled in the Wall Street Journal

Posted on 29 December 2007

Congressman Earl Blumenauer bicycles. Apparently in DC this is remarkable.

In today’s Wall Street Journal he is profiled in a page 1 story: For Congressman, Life in Bike Lane Comes Naturally.

  1. Certainly it’s unusual. Most M.C.’s have an aide do that sort of thing for them.

  2. Phil Hanson says:

Not only does Blumenauer do the right thing for his constituents, he seems to do the right thing in his personal life, too. Wish there were many more Congresspersons who did the same.

An odd piece. Reminded me of some local newscasts spotlight on the “crazy guy who rides his bike to work…
Well, Tracy, that is some guy.
Yea Bob, I wonder what his wife says when he shows up all wet after riding in the rain.
Hahaha! I know what my wife would say…. Next up a local fireman who saved a DOG stuck up a tree…. after this.”

  4. Actually, after all is said and done, I’ve got to be proud–Earl’s my M.C., and I admire him. I’m always thrilled when he gets positive press (well, I think it’s positive) like this.

  5. This is awesome! Anyway, where can I get pin he has on his lapel.

  6. Did you hear about the bike boxes they are putting in around the city???

  7. Dave says:

    Aloha VeganFabulous!

I kept expecting BikePortland.org to blog about that, but I guess it’s on hiatus, so I’ve added a bike box item to my new “Rosebuds” ;-)
