Camping close to town with no reservations was no problem. In fact no more than 3 of the 30+ campsites at Henry Rierson Spruce Run Campground were occupied all weekend. The rain, the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade, and Fleet Week were all going on in Portland. These are all good reasons to get out of town, though the rain followed us.
Despite the weather, we enjoyed the trip and really enjoyed the shower when we got home Sunday. To read all about the rain and the boxed wine visit Heather’s Mile73.com and read A Quarter Tank of $4.49 Gas: Chapter Seven.

Not too much information on the actual camping experience, I see. How was it? Are you keen to go again?

XUP – Heather blogged the heck out of the trip over at mile73.com so I figured I’d just link to her post.
Trip was fun. Rain sucked Friday, but after that it was nice. No bugs, and it didn’t get too cold. The ground was quite hard however. We’re hoping to make it out once a month or so this summer, though I’ll definitely look into some of the cabin/cottage possibilities too!

I’m glad to hear you made it back OK! Next time stay in a Yurt. Devil’s Lake near Lincoln City is nice, and it’s barely a mile out of town. Which is nice if you get an itchin’ for some “Indian casino” action.
