The DaveKnows.org Voters’ Guide

Posted on 20 October 2008

Your two part Voters’ Pamphlet has arrived (if you accidentally recycled it you can find a copy online at OregonVotes.org), and most of us, in Oregon, have also received our ballots.

The editorial board of DaveKnows.org (i.e. me, Dave) convened earlier today to discuss the candidates and ballot measures in the great state of Oregon. After careful consideration the board has come to a consensus and presents to you the following step by step endorsements:

  1. Pour yourself a beer (or wine or booze; this is a democracy!)
  2. Down it.
  3. Pour drink #2.
  4. You’re a grownup, think for yourself. (But the booze does help.) Vote. You’re smarter than the yahoos on the editorial boards.
  5. Post your ballot (don’t forget proper postage!) so that it arrives before election day. Or you can save 42 cents and drop it off at a convenient county ballot drop-off location.

P.s. I’ve already mailed in my ballot, so stop trying to debate me already!

  1. Whoo Hoo!!! I filled mine out Sunday! Too all of you that are voting slackers, you will be getting a call from me to remind you! (I am volunteering for the Obama Campaign to Get Out The Vote!)

  2. Mary Sue says:

Hah! I got my ballot at 1pm and it was turned in down at County Elections by 3! I WIN!

  3. Dave says:

VeganFabulous – One of my favorite parts of vote by mail is getting the darn thing over week or two ahead of time. That way, when the get out the vote folks call I can interrupt with “don’t bother with your spiel; I’ve already voted!” ;-)

Mary Sue – I’ve actually not mailed my ballot in yet; but I’ve sealed the envelope and signed it . . . just need to find a stamp or one of those drop boxes . . .

  4. Heather says:

    Don’t drink and vote kids.

I still haven’t gotten a ballot. What am I, invisible over here?

  5. Dave says:

Heather – You could call the Multnomah County Elections office to ask them what’s up: 503-988-3720. The deadline to register was the 14th though, so it’s too late for this election :-(

  6. Heather says:

I just called, because I mailed the registration in by the deadline and they don’t have it! I’m not registered! I sent it in 3 times!

    I’m being disenfranchised over here!

    :-(

  7. Diane says:

Do you know which 5 measures are sponsored by Bill Sizemore? I’m too lazy to read my voter’s guide and I know I can vote on those five without any research…

  8. Dave says:

Diane – I found the list of 2008 Sizemore ballot measures here:
    http://www.ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Bill_Sizemore

    58-60, 63 and 64.

  9. Steve says:

This weekend I’m voting for the very first time! Yay me!

  10. Dave says:

    Steve – Vote no!

  11. Adron says:

I was starting to be concerned, but finally received the ballots in the mail – for the GF and I that is. Major relief. Now, to get pouring.

  12. Dave says:

Adron – I think I read somewhere that ballots would arrive between the 17-24th; so right on schedule . . . cheers! ;-)
