I just started a local, non-commercial podcast about Portland Public Schools: This Week in PPS. Only one episode so far, but I intend to make it (mostly) weekly and more feature-oriented (interviews, profiles, etc.).

Pretty esoteric, I know, but that’s the joy of podcasting. There’s a niche, and then there’s niche inside that niche, and another one inside of that one. Keep diving deeper and digging around, and you’ll find me.

We’ve had the same problem looking for local podcasts. A few will pop up and put out an episode or two but not much long lived.

There’s a TV/ pop culture podcast recorded in Portland called The Delta Park Project that’s been around for years.

Tad – Well there are countless commercial pod casts; I’m more interested in the locally produced podcasts that mostly are only available online.

Why eliminate the commercial casts? My favorite (and only) podcast happens to be commercial, but they helpfully cut out (almost) all of the commercials (and annoying music) for you!

I’m surprised there isn’t a podcast for the biking community around here – or maybe there is and I’m just unaware of it. I’d be all over that.

RobertWagner – I’ll have to check out both Live Wire and Northwest Nosh. I figure there are probably some esoteric ones out there too, that I’m both ignorant of and uninterested in.

Yeah, once you eliminate the commercial radio stuff you aren’t left with a whole lot. Does Live Wire! count? They technically are a live performance turned podcast turned non-profit radio show (at least I think I have the order correct).

I could name a few more but it would be pretty incestuous for me to do so (ahem, http://www.northwestnosh.com)
