Oaks Park Oktoberfest 2009

Posted on 26 September 2009

The Oktoberfest crowd was thin and subdued when Diane and I arrived at Oaks Park Friday afternoon. The Oaks Park train circled slowly carrying not a single passenger, and only one of the beer stands was open. But the band wore lederhosen and people kept trickling in. While the rest of our friends [...]

September 25-27: Oaks Park Oktoberfest, Juggling Festival, and the Polish Festival

Posted on 24 September 2009

More fests this weekend than you can shake a stick at. Knowing this was the case I started blogging about them early in the week. To recap:
Polish Festival 2009
The Polish Festival is one of Portland’s best annual cultural events (and one of my favorites), and it takes place this weekend: Saturday and Sunday, [...]

Three words: Wiener dog races. That’s really all you need to know, but in addition you will also enjoy imported German beer, sausages, all the oompah music you can stomach, and chicken dancing until the wee hours! Yup, the Zenner’s Oktoberfest at Oaks Park takes place this weekend, from Friday, September 25 through [...]

September 19-20 (part 2): Mini Beer Fest, Sauerkraut Festival, Mt. Angel Oktoberfest

This weekend is crazy full of activities for the Portlander, virtually all of which involve beer. Yesterday I blogged about four such events (Alberta Street Fair, Biketoberfest, Pirate Fest, and Beer with your Art), and today I have a few more for you . . .
The Mini Beer Fest takes place at the [...]

The Muddy Boots Organic Festival begins Friday with keynote address by Bill McKibben, author, environmentalist, etc. You’ll need tickets for this.
Then Saturday and [...]

Review of the Mount Angel Wurstfest: Just rename it Bestfest!

Posted on 23 February 2009

UPDATE: 2010 Wurstfest is February 12-14
Giant Spaten banners fluttered in the breeze outside the Oktoberfest Community Building (500 S Wilco Hwy) in Mount Angel Saturday afternoon. The melodic aspirations of an amplified accordion greeted us as we stepped from the car. The scent of sausage and sauerkraut beckoned.
In the past if you [...]

February 21-22: Bratwurst, Bockwurst, and Frickadelwurst at the Mount Angel Wurstfest

Posted on 20 February 2009

Mount Angel, famous for its annual Oktoberfest, is branching out this winter with a pre-Lent carnival of sausage: Wurstfest, a celebration of the mighty German (wurst) sausage.
Wurstfest takes place at the Oktoberfest Community Building (500 S Wilco Hwy) both Saturday (noon-11) and Sunday (noon-6). Details from the press release:

Area sausage makers present for sale [...]

September 19-22: Bier, clean dogs and beer, pirates and beer

Posted on 19 September 2008

Friday-Sunday
The Oaks Park Oktoberfest begins today and runs through Sunday.
German food and beer, oom pah bands, and the always enjoyable sausage eating, pretzel kissing, and chicken dancing contests. And new this year, wiener dog races Saturday! Only the upcoming Polish Festival, is more anticipated (by me) than this festival. [...]
