April 17, 2008: Timber Jim Retires

Beloved Portland Timbers mascot “Timber Jim” Serrill sawed his last official log for the team in front of 10,977 fans on April 17, 2008. New Portland Timber, but Portland native and MLS veteran Chris Brown scored the game‘s only goal with a 30 yard cracker in the 71st minute. The Puerto Rico Islanders were the visitors on that night, opening day 2008.

I took Heather to her first Timbers game that night. She filmed this footage at that match from Row N, section 107:

Though Timber Joey has stepped in to ably handle mascot duties, Timber Jim continues to be involved with the team, fans, and community.
