August 4, 2003: Darleen Ortega Appointed to the Oregon Court of Appeals

Darleen Ortega was appointed by Governor Ted Kulongoski to the Oregon Court of Appeals on August 4, 2003 (The Oregonian, 5-August-2003).

While in private practice, Judge Ortega was active in the state and local bar associations, including as

a member of the Oregon State Bar Judicial Administration Committee
a member of the Multnomah Bar Association Equality Committee
co-chair and founding member of Oregon Women Lawyers Judicial Endorsement Committee
a member of the Board of Oregon Women Lawyers.

Her appointment marks the first time a woman of Hispanic heritage, and a woman of color, has served on the court.
