Westside MAX Blue LineWestside MAX opened on September 12, 1998. The additional 18 miles brought the Blue line total to 33 and connected Hillsboro and Beaverton with the Portland city center and Gresham.

The route’s Washington Park Station, 260 feet below the surface, is the deepest transit station in North America. It took a tunneling machine and 75 tons of explosives to carve out the pair of three mile tunnels below Washington Park. (The Oregonian, 9 September 1998).
