Portland Nursery‘s 24th Annual Apple Tasting Event takes place over the next two weekends (Friday-Sunday, October 14-16, and 21-23) at the SE 50th and Stark location.
After the beer-focused festivals, this is my favorite fall event. Apple tasting, old fashioned cider pressing, apple desserts, cooking demonstrations, and live music – what’s not to like? Heather also freakin’ loves apples!
Though we have attended for several years, last year’s event was the first time we actually tried all of the 65+ varieties of apples and pears (this year’s fest features over 50 varieties – pdf). The key, we’ve learned, is to arrive early before the tasting line gets too long. The same varieties of apples and pears in the tasting are available to take home by the pound.
