The New York Times’ Frugal Traveler visiting Portland

Posted on 01 April 2009

In a long post about Twitter and travel the New York Time’s Frugal Traveler blogger mentions he’s on his way to Portland . . .

In fact, I’m about to begin a two-week trip to Portland, Ore., where I’ll be reporting for a series of upcoming stories. I’m hoping to make as much use of Twitter as possible, both to get recommendations for frugal fun and to report back instantly about my experience. So sign up for Twitter, follow @frugaltraveler and let me know what I should (or shouldn’t) be doing in and around Portland — and beyond.

Though maybe this is an (unfunny) April Fools Day joke; the Times has written so many Portland articles already I can’t imagine there are any topics left to cover . . . except of course the Unicorn burial ground (he should have visited earlier this month).

    Rain – check
    Bikes – check
    Coffee – check
    Organic brewpub – check
    Urban planning – check
    Unicorn burial ground – miss
    Tattoos – miss
Obligatory Elliott Smith reference, now sometimes replaced by an M Ward reference – miss

All in all, that’s some nice work. We’ll need to find work for the 15 Portland-obsessed NYT staffers who will be let go in the impending reorganization of the Gray Lady.

    Patrick – and Powell’s books – check!
