Friday

Squishing of the Squash

The Oregon Zoo’s annual Squishing of the Squash, in which some of the world’s largest land animals demolish some of the area’s largest pumpkins, will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m.

The Squishing of the Squash is a precursor to the zoo’s Howloween celebration. Events on Saturday and Sunday include a fun scavenger hunt that directs trick-or-treaters to easily accessible activity stations throughout the zoo where they can collect candy and prizes.

Howloween at the Oregon Zoo

Trick-or-treaters can fill their bags with goodies and learn about wildlife Oct. 29-30, during Howloween at the Oregon Zoo. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days and is free with zoo admission.

Throughout the day, visitors can watch the zoo’s enrichment team provide animals with holiday-themed treats like jack-o’-lanterns stuffed with snacks. Enrichment items, such as a passel of pumpkins provided by Al’s Garden Center, help keep the zoo’s animals mentally and physically engaged.

Great Pumpkin Event at PSU Portland Farmers Market

Join us for our annual Great Pumpkin Event at PSU! An all ages pumpkin carving contest will begin at 9am, followed by a children’s costume parade starting at noon. Goodie bags will be provided to parade participants and costumes are highly encouraged! Dave’s Killer Bread will also be on site serving up treats. All events will take place in the center of the market near the music stage.

Killer Pumpkin Fest

Killer Pumpkin Fest returns to Green Dragon on Saturday, October 29th. Celebrating all things pumpkins, this daylong event will take place inside and out in front of Green Dragon from 11:00am to Midnight.

The Curse of the Haunted Curds: The Brewers’ Revenge II

Face Rock Creamery and Portland Brewing present The Curse of the Haunted Curds: The Brewer’s Revenge II – a poutine competition – on Thursday, 27 October 2016 at the taproom (2730 NW 31st Ave.).

Start your Halloween Weekend the best way – with poutine!

The poutine concoctions, created by five brewery chefs (from Portland Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery, Breakside Brewing, Sasquatch Brewing, and Rogue Ales & Spirits), are each built upon a base of French fries, beer-infused gravy, and Face Rock’s Vampire Slayer cheese curds.

Visit the taproom between 11am and 7pm on Thursday, order the $10 poutine sampler ($16 with beer pairings), and vote for the People’s Choice Award. The main event, MCed by Cassidy Quinn of KGW takes place between 6pm and 8pm; when the winners of the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice awards will be announced.

Half the proceeds of the poutine and poutine pairings will be given to the Friendly House. Face Rock Creamery matches the donation!

Stumptown Stories presents They Did It Their Way: Oregon Pioneers Who Did Shit Different on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Jack London bar (basement of the Rialto, SW 4th and Alder).

Culinary historian Heather Arndt Anderson will talk about the Quaker father of Oregon’s fruit orchards–and his freaky Honduran sex cult!

Crime historian JB Fisher will talk about Portland’s pioneering female journalist Ann Sullivan, who covered vice raids, prison riots, sensational murders, and all manner of zany stories in mid-late Twentieth century Portland.”

Stumptown Stories, batshit crazy stories from the murkiest, weirdest, and nuttiest corners of Portland history, takes place the second Tuesday of the month at the Jack London. The Rialto is closing in December, so this is the second-to-last Stumptown Stories at the Rialto – Don’t miss it!

Admission is free. Doors open at 7:00 PM, 21 and over only.
