July 10: Mississippi Street Fair 2010

Posted on 30 June 2010

Mississippi Ave Street Fair 2010The 2010 Mississippi Avenue Street Fair takes place Saturday, July 10th from 10am until 9pm. On North Mississippi Avenue, of course.

This is my favorite Portland street fair. It’s compact, only five blocks from Skidmore to Fremont, so you’re guaranteed to run into your friends amongst the 30,000 or so other festival goers.

“Grandfather” Leonard Smith’s BBQ Rib-Off contest is unique to the festival, and there’s a Local Brew Garden, featuring craft beer from seven local breweries (Hopworks Urban Brewery, Lucky Labrador Brewing Company, Widmer Brothers Brewing Company, Lompoc Brewery, Ninkasi Brewing, Southern Oregon Brewing and 10 Barrel Brewing Company).

Four stages host music, dance, and poetry performances by over two dozen local acts all day. The parade starts at noon at Beech Street. Almost all the local businesses will not only be open, but bursting onto the sidewalk and street with displays and additional seating in front of their locations.

Read my posts about previous Mississippi street fairs to see how much fun it is: Mississippi Avenue Street Fair 2009, and 2008.
