January 23, 1975: Portland Awarded an NASL Franchise

The North American Soccer League awarded Portland an expansion franchise on January 23, 1975. The 20th NASL team would eventually be known as the Portland Timbers.

“There really is a new game in town.”

Don Paul, vice president of Oregon Soccer Inc. made the announcement at a press conference at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
