May 30-31: A beautiful weekend for Timbers soccer (x2)

May 28, 2009 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersSaturday May 30th will be a lovely day for a tailgate. And then at 7pm the Vancouver Whitecaps visit PGE Park to face the Timbers in the teams’ second match up of the year. Vancouver, perennially a good team, is one point behind Portland in the standings. This will be a great match.

The Timbers return to the field Sunday, May 31st at 5pm to take on the Club America Reserves in a friendly exhibition match. Expect, and enjoy, a large, raucous crowd – these exhibition matches against Mexican teams always deliver in that department. We’ll probably get to see all the way to the end of the Timbers’ bench for this one, due to the rather important match against Vancouver less than 24 hours earlier, so study up!

The Timbers are coming off a fantastic weekend in Puerto Rico. La Tropa Naranja was sin suerte ante Portland – the teams drew in the first match 1-1, but the Timbers snatched 3 points in the second in Bayamón 2-1 – our first win in Puerto Rico since the Naranjas entered the league.

The other big Timbers news this week was the official announcement of a July 25th friendly against the recently promoted Burnley Football Club of England’s Championship League – next year they’ll be playing against the big boys in the Premiership. This summer they’ll be facing the Timbers at PGE Park!

Oregon Booze Finder

Suppose your Bloody Mary demands a shot of Hot Monkey. What if you suddenly have a craving for a thimbleful of smooth Apia Artisan Vodka? Maybe you’re reading Baudelaire and feel that Trillium Absinthe will enhance the effect?

Have you ever made a special trip to the liquor store, only to find out they don’t carry what you’re craving, leaving you with only one real option, a mason jar of Hood River Vodka?

boozesearchGood news! The OLCC has launched a site that helps you find exactly what you’re looking for: Oregon Liquor Search.

You can search by brand, or category, correlated to your zip code. Or browse categories and locations. The site displays google maps and everything!

I learned about this via the excellent New Deal Distillery newsletter, which you can sign up for here!

Back in town

mile73-052509Unlike any of our previous camping trips, we made reservations this year. And took Friday off so we could get there before the crowds. And the weather cooperated! Heather has already blogged the first part of the trip:

Portland’s forecast is better, arguably, than Honolulu’s!

Except those pesky overnight lows. Brrrrrr!

May 22-25: Timbers, Rose Fest, bus mall, Wordstock films, and cheap stuff

I’m heading to the coast this weekend, but if I were in town everything below would be interesting to me (well except for the fun center):

  • Timbers play two games
  • Rose Festival Waterfront Village opens Friday
  • Sunday buses return to the bus mall
  • Wordstock Book-to-Film Festival
  • Everything at Value Village is 50% off Monday
