Tuesday Timbers Tidbits (8-February-2011)

February 8, 2011 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersThe Portland Timbers visit the LA Galaxy tonight in their second ever exhibition match as an MLS team – check out the match preview at Dropping Timber. Friday night in their first ever exhibition match as an MLS team the Timbers drew 1-1 with the Ventura County Fusion.

Unfortunately that first match had a casualty: Bright Dike, who ruptured his achilles tendon. The good news is that his surgery was successful and if all goes well with his recovery he could be back on the pitch in 6 to 9 month.

Also in player news, the Belfast Telegraph reports that the Portland Timbers are trying to lure Northern Ireland international Jamie Mulgrew stateside.

Soon we’ll all be able to plan our summers, as the MLS has finally declared the 2011 MLS schedule will be released on Thursday, February 10th.

At PGE Park the seats and the turf are being installed, which is a good sign because, for what it’s worth, SBNation declared PGE Park the #1 MLS Stadium “situation” for 2011.

FC Media, dedicated to forming the definitive history of Portland Timbers Football Club wants to see your kit!

Join FC Media for a photo shoot specifically designed to showcase Portland Timbers kits. Whether they’re new or old replicas, DIY or game-worn shirts, we want to capture the breadth of Timbers kits in the Portland community.

The FC Media open studio event takes place this Sunday, February 13 from 10:30am until 2pm at Studio 20 (419 SE Ivon).

Also remember mao’s Football Show airs live Tuesdays at 4pm and new Portland Timbers related podcast Shed Culture with Hermes airs Thursdays at 4pm on Cascadia.FM.

TimbersThe Portland Timbers are off to California for more training, where they will be joined by a collection of intriguing players: Estonian international midfielder Alo Bärengrub, El Salvador forward Andres Flores, and Colombian forward Jorge Perlaza. The latter trialist apparently being the long rumored mystery forward.

2010 USL Timbers midfield Rodrigo Lopez is also in attendance, along with 2010 Timbers U-23 keeper and New Zealander Jake Gleeson.

Speaking of New Zealanders, Gavin Wilkinson explains his New Zealand bias and shares his hope to someday return to New Zealand to coach the national team with the NZ Herald News.

Coach Spencer does not like the phrase expansion team.

Meanwhile, the Portland Timbers’ marketing efforts continue to draw attention, this time from the Footiebusiness blog.

Don’t forget: Timbers Army First Thursday is this Thursday, February 3, 2011.
