Fleur de Lethal Cinematheque Presents: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (May 28-29, 2011)

The third annual Pee Wee’s BIG Weekend takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, 2011 at the Bagdad Theater (3702 SE Hawthorne).

Portlanders love certain things: movies, beer and dressing in silly costumes to name a few. But the bicycle – oh the bicycle – how we love the bicycle!

It is with this love of bicycles in mind that Fleur de Lethal Cinematheque presents this annual celebration of the film Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

In keeping with tradition we provide 2 screenings – A late night for big kids and a family friendly matinee.

As with all Fleur de Lethal screenings the movie is only HALF the show!

This time, bust out your gray suits and Amazing Larry Hawaiian shirts to enter our costume contest and limber up your toes for the “tequila” dance off!!

This screening goes out to the kids, the kid in all of us and the willingness to go to the end of the earth for something you love . . . especially your bike.

The Late Night Big Kid Screening (21 and over only) is Saturday. Doors open at 9pm, dance and costume contest starts at 9:45pm, and the film begins at 10pm. Admission is only $5!

The All Ages Family Friendly Matinee takes place Sunday afternoon. Doors open at noon, costume parade goes down at 12:45pm, and screening starts at 1pm. Kids under 12 get in for a mere $1, and everyone else for $3.

Portland Timbers vs Columbus Crew

After last weekend’s inspired performance and resulting draw up north the Portland Timbers (4-3-2) return home tonight to host the Columbus Crew (3-2-4).

The Timbers’ record at Jeld-Wen in league play is a perfect 4-0-0 while the Crew’s record on the road is a paltry 0-2-2. The Crew, however, don’t necessarily suck. [more]

The 2011 Kenton Street Fair takes place Sunday, May 22 from 11am to 7pm in the historic Kenton commercial district on North Denver between Schofield and Willis. . .

East Portland‘s first Sunday Parkways takes place May 22, 2011 from 11am to 4pm.

The 7 mile traffic-free route connects Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict, and Gilbert Heights Parks. Bike, skateboard, jog, or walk from park to park. Observe and take part in activities including disc golf with the pros, a soccer tournament, a kids circus, dance and fitness classes, free bike repair, bike skills track, live music, and more. East Portland‘s first Sunday Parkways takes place May 22, 2011 from 11am to 4pm.

The 7 mile traffic-free route connects Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict, and Gilbert Heights Parks. Bike, skateboard, jog, or walk from park to park. Observe and take part in activities including disc golf with the pros, a soccer tournament, a kids circus, dance and fitness classes, free bike repair, bike skills track, live music, and more.

The 9th annual Filmed by Bike film festival takes place Friday through Sunday, April 15-17 2011 at the Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton).

Filmed by Bike is a film festival of bike-themed independent short movies from around the world. Submissions are limited to eight minutes and must revolve around the central theme of cycling.

Hundreds of international entries are submitted but only an average of 30 make the final cut. Our jury of esteemed judges makes that tough decision.

Shawn Levy explains on OregonLive what makes this film festival special:

It’s an event so steeped in the eccentric ways of our fair city that it almost seems like something cooked up by the spoofmeisters of “Portlandia”: Scores — nay, hundreds — of bicyclists turning a modest commercial intersection into a spontaneous springtime fair, with craft beers flowing, djs spinning, bikes and bike wear being flaunted, bike gear being raffled off, and, most importantly, independent short films about the world — nay, the universe — of bicycling screening in a theater just steps from the action.

The festival kicks off Friday night with a street party on Clinton Street in front of the theater from 5:30pm to 11pm. The street party includes a beer garden and entertainment and a raffle (cash only for these!).

2011 Sunday Parkways

Portland Sunday Parkways are your opportunity to spend a summery Sunday morning and afternoon winding your way on bike or foot through mostly residential streets free of car traffic. The routes take you from one park to the next, where you can check out the vendors and demonstrations, or just sit down and relax.

And now the 2011 Portland Sunday Parkway dates have been announced:

May 22 – East Portland

June 26 – North Portland

July 24 – NW/Downtown Portland

August 28 – Southeast Portland

September 25 – Northeast Portland

From May through September, 2011 the fourth Sunday of each month is Sunday Parkway Day. All the parkways go from 11am until 4pm except September’s, which goes from noon until 5pm.
