Sneak Peek: Portland Pinball Map iPhone App

Posted on 11 February 2010

Portland Pinball Map iPhone App Splash ScreenHmm, what would make The Portland Pinball Map even more useful?

How about an iPhone app?

Artist Drew Marshall is working on the (as yet unreleased) app’s look and feel. At his website, Works By Drew, he gives us a sneak peek of what the splash screen will look like, and explains a little bit more about the app:

About a year ago, some friends of mine put together the comprehensive Portland Pinball Map —a list of pretty much every machine, their condition, and location in the bars and restaurants of Portland, OR. Then, a couple weeks ago I got the call and heard the talented Isaac Ruiz was making an iPhone app for it. Well of course, it’s bound to be on everyone’s phone in a couple months when it’s out, but just remember where you saw it first…

Luckily, until the app is available, we still have the excellent Portland Pinball Map website, where you can:

  • Check your favorite locations for their latest line-up
  • Search for machines throughout town
  • Browse the machines in your region
  • Search for locations with four or more machines
  • Comment on a machine’s condition

  1. You guys/gals are AWESOME !! I wish I lived near Portland! I’m a pin-head too and would love to find a pinball map of my area. When I make my way back out to Oregon I will SOOO be using your App! Do you know anyone who is putting one together for PA or NJ ??

  2. Hi Beth, thanks!

I know there are a few other maps that have been done in the past. But they usually aren’t google maps mash-ups, and also, their data is usually fairly stale. The data for Portland stays fresh because we have so many people here paying attention and contributing to the site.

We’ve had a number of requests to expand beyond Portland. And it’s something we’re considering. We’re not able to support it just yet (well, not as we’d like). But if we do expand, we run the risk of ending up with stale data after a while…

Also, thanks for the plug, Dave.
