Timbers win fourth straight against Victory

July 14, 2007 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersThe Timbers continued their dominance of the rookie club, winning 1-0 on yet another Bryan Jordan goal (his fourth this season and third against the Victory). Scot Thompson made the assist.

Alas, I did not get to PGE Park in time to pick up a Timber Jim bobblehead.

Portland Pinball League’s Pedigree

July 13, 2007 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

An article appeared in the Tribune the other day about the Portland Pinball League. Anthony Ramos, one of the owners of the Ground Kontrol Retrocade manages the league these days, and it sounds like the league is still going strong.

One small inaccuracy in the article, however, caught my attention. The article states that: “The league was started in 2004.”

This may be true of the current incarnation, but my little brother and I played in the Portland Pinball League regularly in the late-90s (my little brother Steve was a perennial champ!). Competitions were held at the now defunct Jockey Club, a cinder block bunker, er bar, on N Killingsworth. Back then the league was run by Brinda and Sam, who also published the venerable (and also now defunct) pinball and rock & roll magazine Multiball.

Steve still runs the website, PortlandPinball.com, which he started in 2001, and which continues to be a vibrant forum for Portland pinball aficionados.

The busiest weekend of the summer is here

July 13, 2007 by Dave Knows 3 Comments

I suppose there are only so many weekends in the year, but there are just too many event and festivals this weekend. Special planning will be required, and that’s where I can help. Of course you could just go to the Oregon Country Fair for the whole weekend, but why leave town on a weekend like this?!

Today

The Portland International Beerfest in the North Park Blocks starts at 4pm today (runs through Sunday).

The Timbers kickoff against the Victory at 7pm up at PGE Park. Tonight is Timber Jim Bobblehead night!

Saturday

At 10am the Mississippi Avenue Street Festival begins and runs until 7pm.

The Pearl’s 2007 Bastille Day Festival (waiter races, pétanque exhibitions, probably some cheese, and French music) begins at 11am at Jamison Square.

Pix Patisserie’s Bastille Day Block Party runs from noon until 2am!

Sunday

At 2pm on Sunday the Brazil vs. Argentina Copa América 2007 Final will be shown anywhere you can find GolTV.

At 6pm Sunday watch the Timbers vanquish (in all likelihood) the Victory once again.

Whew! Now where did I leave my Trimet Frequent Flier Miles card . . .

For one possible weekend itinerary check out this previous post: It pays to plan ahead: July 13-15

Portland Streetcar schedule on your iPhone

MuniTime for iPhone You probably already know about Nextbus for real-time Portland Streetcar arrival information.

But do you know about MuniTime? For the iPhone?

The Portland Streetcar is one of the first two transit agencies available. To access it, bookmark this URL on your iPhone: http://pdx.munitime.com

(If the iPhone has such a great web browser, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just use the Nextbus website, but the MuniTime interface does look pretty!)

Copa América 2007 Final Sunday!

July 12, 2007 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

copa america 2007Hope to see you all at Kells Sunday!

The match starts at 2pm, but the place will be packed by 1:30, so if you want a place to sit down and a decent view of a screen I recommend arriving early.

Judging by the crowd of elated and raucous Argentinians (and a few unhappy and sedate Mexicans) watching the semifinal yesterday, it’ll be a heck of a lot of fun.

Kells LogoAny other good Portland venues to watch the game? – let me know in the comments section and I’ll update this post – thanks!
