With 2-2 draw at Minnesota, Timbers first in league to clinch playoffs

TimbersJaime Ambriz scored his first goal of the season Thursday night at Minnesota, tying the game and helping the Timbers clinch a playoff spot. Matt Taylor assisted on the goal. Matt was assisted by Lawrence Olum in the first half for a goal of his own.

Next Thursday El Matador Byron Alvarez, now with Charleston, returns to Portland to take on the Timbers. Byron is having a strong year for the Battery with 8 goals so far, second most in the USL First Division. Thursday’s game is the final regular season home game for the Timbers.

    Wait, we scored goals? Wow!!

    Nice to see Taylor get his first. Seemed long overdue given he’s been on the brink many times.

    I’m happy Jaime got a goal too; I’ve been impressed with his play when he’s been out there.

    Olum’s impressed me too; each time I’ve seen him play he’s had a chance or two.

    I think Gavin should play Ambriz and Olum more; I like Jordan and Taylor, but they’ve not had much scoring success lately (granted that’s partly due to the referees last two games).
