My perspective on Portland is far from jaundiced; you’d have a hard time finding a bigger Portland fan than me, but a fresh perspective on Portland’s charms and foibles (yeah, I’ll reluctantly admit Portland has some foibles) can be edifying and possibly therapeutic.
Heather at Mile73.com made the move from LA to Portland just a little over six months ago. A few weeks ago she posted Portland: A Newcomer’s 6 Month Review, wherein she describes her motivation for exchanging the sunshine, barbed-wire freeways, and palm trees of the City of Angels for the rain, public transit, and greenery of the City of Roses.
She concludes, among other things, that moving to Portland is a better remedy for LA-induced chafing and ennui than a crack habit. Probably.
Go read the article. And the rest of her blog’s funny and insightful posts.
