In addition to the Timbers away match (find out where to watch here) and the multitude of beer events (Concordia Cup, Bones and Brews, and Bailey’s Taproom Birthday) there are plenty of other festivities that warrant your attention this weekend.
The Mount Tabor Park Centennial Celebration takes place this weekend, both Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd. As you probably know Mount Tabor is an extinct volcano, one of only two within city limits in the continental USA (the other is in Bend). The park hosts three reservoirs and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Check out the website for a list of activities this weekend – there are too many for me to list them all here. The activities range from nature walks, to marching band performances, and a bike show.
The 10th annual Iranian Festival takes place Saturday, August 1st from 10am to 6pm at the Park Blocks near PSU (I’m not sure where exactly, in relation to the Farmers Market location). Enjoy iranian cuisine while checking out the Iranian art, carpet, and other vendors. Listen to musical performances by classical and modern Iranian musicians and DJs. Visit the Persian Cultural Center of Oregon website for more information (look under events).
Another possibility Saturday is Obonfest 2009. Honor your ancestors at the Oregon Buddhist Temple (3720 SE 34) this Saturday, August 1st from 4pm-9pm.
In addition to a beer garden, food options available include yakisoba, yakiniku, yakitori, chirashi sushi, spam musubi, and manju.
Entertainment includes Taiki peformances, martial arts demonstration, and a Bon Odori (public dance).
Check out sights from the 2007 Obon Fest at Around the Sun.
There are two street fairs this Saturday too.
The Fremont Fest takes place on NE Fremont Street between 42nd and 57th from 10am to 4pm. The parade begins at 10:30am. There will be live music, art, a sidewalk sale, and carriage rides. And of course tons of stuff for the kids.
The first annual Overlook Village Celebration takes place Saturday as well, from 10am to 9pm on North Killingsworth from Denver to Omaha. Festivities include a bike show, sidewalk sale, art sale, and all the traditional street fair fare.

Are you guys actually going to make it down to watch the away match on Saturday? I’m trying to get some people to go to Obon fest afterward… I’m hoping someone there has proper takoyaki! nom nom nom!
Dave says
devlyn – We’re not sure what our Saturday plans are yet. We will probably make it to Obonfest at some point, but not sure about Beaula yet!

Doh! I need to start reading my own blog. Obonfest doesn’t start until 4pm. It was a pleasant bike ride though.
