It’s tempting to spend November in hibernation mode, but there is just too much damn stuff to do . . .
The Siren Nation festival takes place November 5-8 in Portland, all over town.
Siren Nation’s mission is to inspire and empower women of all ages to create their own art and to highlight the many achievements of women in the arts. Siren Nation promotes and showcases the original work of women artists by creating year round performance, exhibition, and educational opportunities.
Visit the Siren Nation website for more information.
If you’re like me, you can’t get enough soccer apparel, and you don’t care for Nike’s stuff (and also you stopped playing soccer 4 years ago but still wear soccer apparel, if you’re like me). Well I got word there’s going to be an Adidas “blowout sale” at the Expo Center from the 5th through the 8th: footwear, apparel, and designer apparel…nothing over $30.
Admission is free, and the hours are 10am to 8pm on the 5th, 6th, and 7th; 10am to 6pm on the 8th.
Friday, November 6th, the Cort & Fatboy Midnight Movie is Raising Arizona, at the Bagdad Theater (get there by 9pm if you want a seat!). Geek In the City explains:
Bask in the glory as hundreds of your fellow Portland Geeks celebrate The Coen Brother’s seminal classic and quite possibly Nicholas Cage’s greatest performance! Even better than beer, tots, & Coen? Our assembled masses will show the mouth-breathers at Alpha Broadcasting just what a “bunch of nerd kids” can do… All without misplacing our balls! As always, it is 21 and over, tickets are just $3 and from what you I hear at www.cortandfatboy.com, some solid mediocrity is coming. Don’t miss out!
The World Forestry Center is hosting a Coffee Fair on Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th, from 10am to 3pm each day.
Savor and sip coffees from around the globe as bigwig to backyard roasters roll out new products, retro brewing techniques, and tempt the taste buds with the world’s most commonly used drug.
Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for children over 3.

If I were to ever try out for American Idol, I would audition by yodeling the theme song to Raising Arizona.

I’ve never seen the movie. What’s so good about it?
Dave says
Steve – Have you seen any other Coen brothers films? If you like their films, you’ll probably like Raising Arizona.

yeah, November’s always a bit of a sleeper. I’ve tried doing nanowrimo and even nanoremo but keep getting too sidetracked by stuff from getting it done.
Steve – Raising Arizona is a nice quirky movie with some good Coen surprises. Definitely worth checking out.

First off, love “Raising Arizona”….Second, there is a typo on the coffee fair. Last time I looked at a calendar, the 7th and 8th of November are not Saturday and Sunday, that would be the 5th and 6th. Just thought I would mention the typo….

@Misha – this is the 2010 post . . . 2011 is over here: Weekend Amusements (November 4-6, 2011)
