A Portland Sunday Parkway is an opportunity to spend a pleasant summery Sunday morning and afternoon winding your way on bike or foot through mostly residential streets free of car traffic. The routes take you from one park to the next, where you can check out the vendors and demonstrations, or just sit down and relax.
Heather and I have participated in two Portland Sunday Parkways – we walked the very first one in North Portland in 2008, and last year we rode bikes in the Southeast Portland event. We highly recommend participating.
And now the 2010 Portland Sunday Parkway dates have been announced:
May 16 Northeast Sunday Parkways – connecting Wilshire, Fernhill, Alberta, and Woodlawn Parks
June 27 North Sunday Parkways – connecting Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, and Kenton Parks
July 18 East Portland Sunday Parkways – connecting Lents and Ed Benedict Parks (The East Portland Exposition will also be at Benedict Park July 17-18)
August 15 Southeast Sunday Parkways – connecting Col. Summers, Laurelhurst, and Sunnyside Parks (The Hawthorne Street Fair will also be in full swing)
Update: Route maps are now available!
Details of a fifth parkway in September, will be announced soon. Visit the Sunday Parkway website for vendor, volunteer, and sponsor information.
