Lucky (or unlucky) Bastards is the theme of the March 24th edition of Back Fence PDX.
We have a former casino dealer, a wayward traveler, game show contestant and other lucky (or unlucky) bastards telling true 8-10 minute true tales. No notes, no memorization, just a mic and Portland’s best audience at The Mission Theater.
The official lineup includes writer and MTV producer and director Arthur Bradford, Mercury reporter Sarah Mirk, and Love in the Dump Chute co-host Meagan Kate.
So how exactly does this work? It’s like this:
Our Back Fence Storytelling event is the kissing cousin to San Francisco’s Porchlight Storytelling Series. It is an evening with seven people telling true, unmemorized ten-minute stories based on the month’s theme. The stories must not have been performed publicly prior to their Back Fence PDX telling.
Heather and had a great time at the last Back Fence PDX production, Entertainment for People (not least because we finally met Lizzy of Lizzy Dishes, in person in the audience!). One of the highlights was Arthur Bradford’s presentation, which included footage of and the stories behind How’s Your News, a show he wrote, produced, and directed for MTV. He’s part of the lineup on the 24th. All the presenters were fantastic, so I expect this batch of story tellers won’t disappoint either. Free cupcakes from Saint Cupcake made the rounds at intermission, and looks like we’re in for that treat again on the 24th. We’re not going to miss this show.
Tickets are available online (only $10 until the 15th – that’s Monday! – then $12 after that) or at the door ($14) at the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan) on Wednesday, March 24th (21 and over only). Doors will open at 6pm for food and drink, show starts at 7:30.
