The big announcement Monday (besides the debut of the slick TV spot above) was that The Timbers will be hosting Boca Juniors at the end of the month. Wow, they promised a world famous club for a friendly; I think this qualifies! The match takes place Saturday, May 29th at 7pm. Tickets go on sale today at 10am (if you’re a season ticket holder, your Game B tickets will get you in).
But first we have a bunch of games that count. The Timbers play three league matches in less than a week, starting this Thursday, May 13th when new team Crystal Palace Baltimore makes their first visit to PGE Park. Saturday, May 15th AC St. Louis visits for their second time, and Montreal makes the trip on Wednesday, May 19th.
Make sure to tune into Feuerstein’s Fire Episode #9 at 11am today (Tuesday, May 11th) as the Timbers Army’s patriarch (and talented photographer and advertiser on this blog) Steven D. Lenhart talks with host Daniel Feuerstein about the Army and the Timbers on the threshold of MLS.
And your Timbers history lesson for today: Did you know that 1978 was the 2nd best year for the NASL Timbers? Timbers Army legend Drumman knows, and shares with us the story (and a piece from his collection of vintage Timbers ephemera) at his blog Throw Ins.
