Over the years I’ve had various discussions with various soccer heads, and the topic has often turned to the question of why don’t we have an all soccer all the time bar in Portland? We know it would do well. Look at how packed Kells gets, for example, for big matches (even the ones that start at 7am!?).
Well soon we’ll be able to test our theory – Taste of Europe, the small market on 18th and Hawthorne, is being rechristened the 442 Soccer Bar.
New soccer bar opening in Portland, Oregon!!!
The only bar in town where you will never miss your favorite soccer game and in addition a place where you can watch all major sporting events on 3 large HD TVs.
Full liquor bar, old pub atmosphere and friendly soccer-fanatic staff.
Their plan is to open in September, 2010. I’ll keep you posted! Meanwhile visit their website to vote for your favorite team – they have 12 panels to adorn with team flags. Of course the first one is reserved for the Portland Timbers!
Blogtown has more of the story. 442 has a Facebook page, and Portland Soccer Bars now lists 442 Soccer Bar!

Dear 442,
Please hurry and open…..I am losing faith in my footy watching options in Portland. Beuhlahland wasn’t open last time Liverpool played, The Thirsty Lion wont open early, and Kells doesn’t have a schedule posted for EPL games. I can’t afford my own cable packages, but will spend copious amounts of money on beer and breakfasts if you play Liverpool games!
Thank you,
Jen

Any firm date for opening? It would be great if they opened this Sunday, at 4.30am and I see a Liverpool win. Asking for too much?
