The 2010 Oregon State Fair extends from Friday, August 27 through September 6, at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.
Competitions at the fair include 4-H of course, along with categories such as fine art, farm and garden, photography, floral, creative living, and grill offs. Competitions also include horse shows, and exhibits of livestock and the best part: small animals. [more]

Go back-to-school 80s style. Cort and Fatboy‘s Midnight Movie for September 3rd 2010 is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
The Bagdad Theater (3702 SE Hawthorne) is the spot. Admission is $3.00, doors open at 10pm. “The film starts at 11pm after a short trailer reel cobbled together from DVD’s, old 80′s TV ads, and various internet detritus deemed humorous enough.” [more]

Back in 1887 Oregon was the first state to officially recognize the Labor Day holiday, so it’s only fitting that to this day we throw huge Labor Day picnics throughout the state.

The 2010 Swift Watch takes place throughout the month of September.
So here’s the deal. Every September thousands of Vaux’s Swifts come to Northwest Portland, eat lots of bugs, swirl and dive and circle the chimney at Chapman School (off NW 25th between Pettygrove and Raleigh). [more]
