The Portland Timbers trained this morning on the Ronaldo Fields at Nike World Headquarters in preparation for Saturday’s Puerto Rico match. The Timbers will be taking the red eye tonight, and as the guys trained they were in a good mood and it was a lighthearted atmosphere. Though the atmosphere seemed easy going, it was not uncommon to see some tough tackles and the players putting it all on the line. Watching practice you get a real sense of the depth of this team and just how good so many of the Timbers are. [more]

Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber will be in Portland Sept. 21 as a guest speaker of the Sports Executive Speaker Series at the Mutnomah Athletic Club.
Garber became the MLS commissioner in 1999 after working for 16 years with the NFL. Under his reign the league has added eight expansion teams, including both 2011 newcomers Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps. [more]
