As part of Oregon Dance Week, the Oregon Ballet Theatre invites fans of all ages and skill levels to a free open class on stage at the Newmark Theatre (1111 SW Broadway) this Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 6pm.
Dance Companies and schools from across the state of Oregon are kicking up their heels at the first ever Oregon Dance Week, April 23 – 30, 2011. Suzanne Boniamici, a Senator representing District 17 took a leap of faith and proposed Concurrent Resolution 5, establishing the last week in April as Oregon Dance Week. The resolution passed in the Senate on April 4, 2011 and will receive it’s first hearing in the House on Monday, April 25, 2011. Oregon Dance Week coincides with National Dance Week. “Even in difficult economic times, it’s important to recognize the benefits of arts and culture” Bonamici stated during the initial vote. The resolution recognizes that“…dance contributes to the well-being of individuals who watch dance performances and those who dance… dance and opportunities to go dancing lend vibrancy and vitality to the community”.
