No, this isn’t from a recent vintage New York Times. This formidable compendium appeared in a special edition of the Morning Oregonian, on February 4, 1911, celebrating The Oregonian‘s first 50 years as a daily newspaper. The previous day’s paper explained that the special edition’s text had been prepared carefully and its pictures selected with a view of giving people unfamiliar with Portland and Oregon a clear conception of the city and the state. All manner of Oregon and Portland boasting ensued.

Cool! It would be great if you would post a transcript of the text in the body of the post, “Letters of Note” style (http://www.lettersofnote.com/)
