Brewing Up Cocktails: Winter Holiday Special Edition (10-December-2011)

December 7, 2011 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Brewing Up Cocktails - Holiday Special EditionBrewing Up Cocktails presents a Holiday Special Edition this Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Hop and Vine (1914 N Killingsworth).

Last winter’s edition was perhaps the most popular installment of Brewing Up Cocktails ever, featuring acclaimed drinks like the Hot Scotchy, Wassail, and the Furburger, all three of which will make their return on December 10th. There will also be four brand new beer cocktails to set your head right and warm the cockles of your heart as the holidays near.

The new beer cocktails run the gamut of styles: Three varieties will be served hot to fend off the winter cold, an effervescent and citrusy take on the French 75, a fruity and hoppy punch made with IPA, and a silky smooth beer flip. There will be something for everyone at this event, even an ugly Christmas sweater contest!

Visit Brewing Up Cocktails for details on the featured drinks, including the four brand new beer cocktails. The event runs from 6pm to 9pm.

Brewing Up Cocktails was founded in July 2010 by Ezra Johnson-Greenough, Jacob Grier, and Yetta Vorobik to explore the interplay of craft beer and spirits to create a new breed of beer cocktails.

December 7, 1996: Yaquina Bay Lighthouse Relit

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse (photo by Oregon Attractions on Flickr)The Yaquina Bay Lighthouse on the bay in Newport, Oregon was built in 1871 and decommissioned only three years later. But on December 7, 1996, it was re-lit as a privately maintained aid to navigation.

The light shines with a steady white light from dusk to dawn (and sometimes on dark days, because it is controlled by a photocell.) The light is 161 feet above sea level.

The lighthouse had originally been active only three years due to the construction of the Yaquina Head Light, three miles north, which made it obsolete.
