It is boiling over, and there is no end in sight. Thus, we happily introduce, the Crafty Underdog. As talent new and old explodes throughout our dear city, the Crafty Underdog will be here to catch it.

This month’s free all ages show features beer and coffee, live music, filmmakers, local arts and crafts, and more, on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 11am to 5pm.

El ClasicoThe Portland premiere of El Clásico: More Than a Game, a documentary film about Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, Spanish history, culture, identity and soccer, takes place this Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 5th Avenue Cinema (510 SW Hall).

In April 2010 nine CSU, Chico students spent two weeks in Barcelona and Madrid on a soccer adventure. They had the opportunity to interview world-famous soccer stars Cristiano Ronaldo Thierry Henry, Iker Casillas as well renowned journalists, politicians and historians. They attended two major games, one of which was the El Clásico, the titanic battle between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. This game is one of the most famous and widely watched sporting events in the world. Throughout the process the students learned that this monumental rivalry is not just a game of soccer but a way of understanding the very complex culture, history, and regional identity of Spain.

The film project was initiated and overseen by Chico State Alumni and film-maker Kelly Candaele and produced by another Chico State Alum, Cathy Growdon and co-produced by Celia Brugman.

Admission is a mere $5. Film begins at 7:30pm.

POWFest: Portland, Oregon Women’s Film Festival (March 8-11, 2012)

POWFest 2012The fifth annual Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) takes place March 8 through 11, 2012 at the historic Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy).

As the only film festival in Portland exclusively dedicated to showcasing films directed by women and encouraging women to take on the director’s chair; we are one of only a handful of festivals in the U.S. dedicated to women-directed film. With each year, the festival has continued to grow. Attendance has more than doubled and ticket sales have increased by 75%, exposing more works by women to the film-going community.

Jurying submissions of over 400 films from female filmmakers around the world, POWFest organizers strive to include a broad collection of films by a range of filmmakers that include first-timers to veterans who have been working in cinema for many years.

Over 30 directors will be in attendance this year!

Visit the festival website for the full schedule and other event details.
