Portland Film: Did You Kiss Anyone? – The Teaser Trailer

November 18, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Portland filmmaker Mike Vogel recently announced the completion of filming for his latest feature, Did You Kiss Anyone?, and last night he released the first teaser trailer. Looks fantastic!

Heather and I have had the honor of visiting the set a couple times during the filming – once as tourists, and once as extras, so we’re extremely excited to see the film taking shape. Read our interview with Mike from last April where he talks about Did You Kiss Anyone? and his other nanobudget, but first rate, films.

Video Interlude: Hyper-Drive from Westmoreland to Sandy

Mike Vogel zip-ties his Flip camera to the front of his car and heads to Sandy, Oregon.

I also stopped at Joe’s Donuts and ate a maple bar. That part of the video was not sped up. Also, there is a dog pooping on the side of the road, so I stopped the video so you could see that.

The Novembeard is looking good Mike!

This one’s by friend of the blog and local filmmaker Mike Vogel. The video’s Vimeo page statement: I’ve got a nice view at work. Why not do a timelapse?. I agree: why not?

South Waterfront: Ideal for Filmmakers?

October 25, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

South WaterfrontFilmmaker Mike Vogel has found an excellent use for Portland’s infamous South Waterfront District:

The South Waterfront area takes a lot of crap for being a highrise wasteland of condos no one lives in. But if you live in Portland and want to film a scene with a skyscraper environment without the hassles of random people interrupting your shot, it’s a filmmaker’s dream. The very deadness of SoWat makes it ideal for the budgetless director in Portland (ok, me).

You’ve got skyscrapers, busses, the streetcar, the tram, the river. And now there’s even a really cute park. It all feels pretty generic (in a good way). It could be any city.

Read the rest: South Waterfront is for indies

Like Mike I kinda like the South Waterfront. Sure it cost a lot of public money, but what new development doesn’t? I wouldn’t want to live there, but if I was rich I’d buy one of those bargain basement condos now and come back in a decade or two to see what we’ve wrought. I expect South Waterfront will be the boondoggle that blossoms. And in the meantime we have an urban landscape fit for a filmmaker’s dream!

Portland Filmmaker Seeks Extras for Skivvies and Animal-Costume Themed Scene

October 7, 2010 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Did you Kiss Anyone?Filmmaker, and friend of the blog, Mike Vogel is finishing up work on his latest film, Did You Kiss Anyone?, a romantic comedy about marriage, sex, and shi**ing with the door open.

But there’s still a bit of filming to do . . .

Almost one year to the day since we began filming “Did You Kiss Anyone?” we will shoot the second-to-last scene. I try to say this with as much confidence as I can given that we’ve re-scheduled this scene probably close to 7 times.

It’s a pretty weird scene in some ways, involving as many people as we can get to strip down to their underwear (or as close as they feel comfortable) and put on an animal mask. With it being so close to Halloween, I’m hoping people feel a little adventurous. Also, this is Portland, so there’s a solid chance our problem will be too many people.

Heather and I have had the honor of visiting the set a couple times during the filming – once as tourists, and once as extras. We can assure you Mike, his crew, and Portland’s top actors are fun to work with!

Are you brave enough to lend a hand? You’ll get to go to the wrap party! Go read the FAQ for more information, and visit the Facebook page to sign up!
