North Portland Sunday Parkways (26-June-2011)

Sunday ParkwaysThe 2011 North Portland Sunday Parkways takes place June 26.

The second (of five) Sunday Parkways this year, this is the 4th annual North Portland event – the very first Sunday Parkways in 2008 traced a North Portland route.

From 11am until 4pm enjoy 8 miles of car-free streets consisting of two loops connecting Peninsula, Arbor Lodge, Kenton, and McCoy park and the Willamette Bluffs. Activities include a bike skills track, free basic bike repair, Circus Cascadia, juggling and unicycle lessons, belly dancing, and more. Vendors will be on hand at each park.

The Timbers’ record at Jeld-Wen in league play is a perfect 4-0-0 while the Crew’s record on the road is a paltry 0-2-2. The Crew, however, don’t necessarily suck. [more]

Sunday ParkwaysEast Portland‘s first Sunday Parkways takes place May 22, 2011 from 11am to 4pm.

The 7 mile traffic-free route connects Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict, and Gilbert Heights Parks. Bike, skateboard, jog, or walk from park to park. Observe and take part in activities including disc golf with the pros, a soccer tournament, a kids circus, dance and fitness classes, free bike repair, bike skills track, live music, and more.

Sunday ParkwaysPortland Sunday Parkways are your opportunity to spend a summery Sunday morning and afternoon winding your way on bike or foot through mostly residential streets free of car traffic. The routes take you from one park to the next, where you can check out the vendors and demonstrations, or just sit down and relax.

And now the 2011 Portland Sunday Parkway dates have been announced:

May 22 – East Portland

June 26 – North Portland

July 24 – NW/Downtown Portland

August 28 – Southeast Portland

September 25 – Northeast Portland

From May through September, 2011 the fourth Sunday of each month is Sunday Parkway Day. All the parkways go from 11am until 4pm except September’s, which goes from noon until 5pm.

SE Area Art Walk (March 5-6, 2011)

SE Area Art Walk 2011The 8th Annual South East Area Art Walk takes place this Saturday and Sunday (10am to 5pm both days), March 5th and 6th, 2011.

Over 160 artists, many in “native environments” will be showing their works and meeting art lovers over the first weekend of March. What a wonderful way to spend a day…wandering around Southeast Portland, experiencing sculpture, painting, jewelry, pottery, photography, encaustic, print-making, textile…almost every conceivable medium for expression. The 2010 event grossed over $80,000 for artists!

The art fair area is roughly bordered by SE 10th, SE Hawthorne, SE 41st and SE Powell. The event is free. Maps are available at local shops, or can be viewed online, or downloaded here (pdf).
