At the Timbers game last night, briefly at half time, the Blazer game was shown on the jumbotron. We learned, those of us without fancy Blackberries and iPhones, the Blazers were down nearly 20 in the fourth quarter.
I’m a season ticket holder for both teams, and so a part of me was relieved I didn’t have to decide between a Saturday game 7 at the Rose Garden and a second match up in 3 days against Carolina at PGE Park. But as I contemplated the possibly developing dilemma earlier this week, I found myself leaning towards attending the Timbers match over a Blazer game 7 playoff game, even if it rains. The realization struck me that I do have a hierarchy of favorite teams, and the Timbers are at the top.
But in 2011, when the Timbers make their MLS debut, I anticipate severe scheduling conflicts, as the Blazers are destined to win the NBA championship that year (even less optimistic/prescient fans will have to concede the Blazers are likely to advance past the first round fairly regularly for the next several years). I have decided I will skip an early season Timbers match for a Blazer NBA finals game, but for a 2nd round game? The conference finals?
I’ll cross that bridge in 2011.

Hey, Timber’s game for me – no doubt about it 🙂

You’d pass on any Game 7… for a match that is as likely as anything to end in a 1-1 tie!?!?!?!?!?!?
Game 7 vs. tie. Ugh. Soccer fans.

Christian – One of the reasons I was leaning towards the Timbers game was that my bus trip from PGE Park is easier; taking transit to and from the Rose Garden requires I transfer buses downtown, which can be a pain late at night on a weekend.
Nick – I happen to like both basketball and soccer, though I prefer the latter. I don’t, however, dismiss or ridicule the fans of sports I don’t particularly like . . .well except for American Football fans 😉
Christian says
Nick – eh, I find soccer games more exciting than basketball ones. That’s all.

I prefer live events to events on television, so for me also sharing in Dave’s passion for the Trail Blazers and Timbers, I would go for the live event that I had tickets for. If I was able to secure tickets for a game 7 Trail Blazers playoff game, I would choose that in a minute.
During Thursday’s Timbers game, I tried to listen to the Blazers on the radio in the Shed, and couldn’t hear a damn thing, so resorted to updates from ESPN on my phone.
