The rain finally arrived.

As evidenced by the list below, however, there’s still a lot to do on a rainy Portland weekend in the Fall, and every one of the events featured below is either indoors or tent covered!

With the Great American Distillers Festival still two weekends away, what’s a tippler to do this weekend?

I’m glad you asked.

Head out to Troutdale, McMenamins Edgefield to be exact, for the Oregon Distillers Guild Fall Tasting! More . . .

The Fall 2009 Night Owl Record Show takes place this Saturday, October 10th from 5pm to 9pm at the Portland Eagles Lodge (4904 SE Hawthorne). More . . .

These last two events should sound familiar – they started last weekend, and continue through this one. We actually made it to these events last weekend, and I blogged about it here: Portland Nursery Apple Tasting Event 2009.

Over the next two weekend (Friday-Sunday, October 9-11, and 16-18) the Portland Nursery hosts the 22nd Annual Apple Tasting Event at the Stark location (5050 SE Stark).

Apple tasting, old fashioned cider pressing, apple desserts, and cooking demonstrations; normally I wouldn’t get too excited these sorts of activities, but last year Heather and I attended the festival and enjoyed it immensely. More . . .

Paddy’s Oysterfest is this Saturday, October 17 from 11am to midnight Saturday at Paddy’s Bar & Grill (65 SW Yamhill). Admission is free.

The street in front of Paddy’s will be closed off to traffic, allowing for a street festival featuring Irish music and dancing, oyster shucking lessons, Guinness straight from the keg, champagne, whisky pairings, and oysters – served a multitude of ways. The party will end at midnight with a lone bagpiper!

October 17: Night Owl Record Show

nighowlfall09The Fall 2009 Night Owl Record Show takes place this Saturday, October 10th from 5pm to 9pm at the Portland Eagles Lodge (4904 SE Hawthorne).

Portland’s Night Owl Record Show is the nation’s first night time record show. Twice a year since October of 2003 music fans and record fiends from Portland, the Pacific Northwest and as far away as Florida, New York and Japan, have gathered for a funky time buying, selling and trading records. The Eagles provide food, drink and pool to keep things from getting boring.

Our friends Justin and Katie from Hall of Records will be in attendance, offering up a hand-picked selection of Rare Groove, Deep Funk, Jazz, Cinematic Soul, Hip-Hop, and Breaks, in addition to plenty of other music lovers and vinyl collectors.

21 and over only. Admission is $2 (or $15 for the early bird entrance at 3pm). Part of the proceeds benefits KBOO, Portland’s community radio station.
