Roy Bobble Head

Trying to decide which Trailblazer rookie, Dante Cunningham or Jeff Pendergraph, the new Brandon Roy bobble head (pictured above) resembles most. One thing’s for sure, it looks nothing like Roy . . .

Here’s a taste. Nathaniel Boggess, one of the storytellers scheduled for Entertainment for People, answers the questions What would John Hughes do? at last September’s Back Fence PDX:

February 12-14: Wurstfest 2010

February 8, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

UPDATE: 2011 Wurstfest is February 12-13!

WurstfestDust off your Lederhosen, starch up your Dirndl and join the happy folk in Mount Angel for three fun days of celebration in honor of the WURST!

Wurstfest: A Celebration of German Sausage (pdf) returns to Mount Angel for a second year.

Wurstfest was dreamed up last year by the Bavarian-philes in Mount Angel, Oregon, home of Oregon’s largest Oktoberfest celebration every fall. Last year’s inaugural festival was so successful, they have brought it back again this year.

It’s just like Oktoberfest, but in the winter. Mount Angel area sausage makers present their best wursts at the fest, Spaten and Franziskaner beers from Munich are on tap, and regional wines and Bavarian glühwein are also available. Entertainment includes Z Musikmakers Family Band, the Greg Meier Bavarian Quartet, and Jäegermeister Volksmusik.

The fest takes place at the Mount Angel Community Building (500 S Wilco Highway) over from February 12 through the 14th. Hours Friday are 5pm to 11pm, Saturday noon until 11pm, and Sunday noon to 6pm. Included in the $10.00 adult admission fee is a souvenir glass Bavarian beer mug, and a special gift for the Ladies on Valentines Day. Kids get in free with an adult until 9pm.

Last year we visited Wurstfest on Valentines Day, which coincidentally is Oregon’s Birthday. Read Heather’s review of last year’s festival, I Went To A Sausage Fest, and check out the festival’s rendition of Happy Birthday Dear Oregon:

February 13, 16: Mardi Gras on Historic Mississippi Avenue

February 8, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Mardi Gras on Mississippi AveWhy wait until Tuesday? Celebrate Mardi Gras on Historic Mississippi Avenue, Saturday, February 13.

Join us Saturday February 13 for a day filled with family fun and celebrating Mardi Gras! There will be mask making, and bike decorating at the Q Center with face painting and balloon artists. Then you and the kids can join in on our Moving Street Parade at 3:00pm which starts at Skidmore and ends at Fremont. Follow that up with photos and puppet show from Mudeye Puppet Company at the Mississippi Pizza Pub.

So yeah, Saturday’s Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, is decidedly “family-friendly”.

But return, sans children, to the Boise neighborhood on the real Fat Tuesday, February 16th for more fun, including:

Mississippi Pizza and Pub‘s (3552 N Mississippi) first ever pizza eating contest!

Miss Delta (3950 N Mississippi), from 5pm until 10pm, will be offering live music, cool drinks, dancing girls and soul food.

Gumbo Gallery (3636 N Mississippi, Suite B) will be hosting a “Happy Hour Sale” from 5-7pm: Reduced prices on Mardi Gras party hats and beads, novelty eye-glasses, eye masks, feather boas and umbrellas.

Casa Naranja (4205 N Mississippi) will feature live old time 20s and 30s blues music with Steve Cheeseborough, and Hurricane drink specials.

And ¿Por qué No? (3524 N Mississippi) will be offering special Mardi Gras inspired martinis.
