Portland Sucks on PDX.FMGood morning Portland!

Listen to Portland Sucks on PDX.FM on Monday, February 15 at 8am, I’m going to be the guest!

(The day job kept me safe from committing to a visit in previous negotiations, but suddenly my schedule opened up when I realized the 15th is President’s Day, and I have the day off.)

Hosts Robert Wagner and Sabrina Miller and I will discuss What Does Dave REALLY Know? and whatever other topics and questions they bring up. For moral support, Heather will be there too.

8am’s not too early to start drinking is it?

Portland Timbers Roundup (02/12/2010)

February 12, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersLast week’s big news was that the City Council sausage factory finally agreed to a soccer deal for PGE Park. Oh, and the unveiling of the Portland MLS Foosball Table!

The big news this week? The goddamn USL1-NASL USSF Division II, 2010 schedule was finally released.

Timbers first team finally has a schedule by Kip Kesgard at OregonLive.com

One of the biggest days for Timbers supporters is the day the season schedule is finally released to the public. This wonderful event triggers a mad frenzy by Timbers Army members to schedule time off at their place of employment, either to allow travel to away matches or get an early start in support of the team for weekday matches. While the league turmoil delayed release of the schedule, it has been rumored that the USSF required all teams to pre-pay their league fees before releasing the schedule and a few teams had just recently made their final payments. Haiti earthquake close at hand for Timbers’ James Marcelin at The Oregonian

Portland’s newest professional soccer player is far from home.

For James Marcelin of Haiti, this is both good and bad.

“(Haitians) are still very sad — very sad,” Marcelin said. “Even right now, people are still crying in Haiti.” [More]

Sneak Peek: Portland Pinball Map iPhone App

February 11, 2010 by Dave Knows 3 Comments

Portland Pinball Map iPhone App Splash ScreenHmm, what would make The Portland Pinball Map even more useful?

How about an iPhone app?

Artist Drew Marshall is working on the (as yet unreleased) app’s look and feel. At his website, Works By Drew, he gives us a sneak peek of what the splash screen will look like, and explains a little bit more about the app:

About a year ago, some friends of mine put together the comprehensive Portland Pinball Map —a list of pretty much every machine, their condition, and location in the bars and restaurants of Portland, OR. Then, a couple weeks ago I got the call and heard the talented Isaac Ruiz was making an iPhone app for it. Well of course, it’s bound to be on everyone’s phone in a couple months when it’s out, but just remember where you saw it first…

Luckily, until the app is available, we still have the excellent Portland Pinball Map website, where you can:

  • Check your favorite locations for their latest line-up
  • Search for machines throughout town
  • Browse the machines in your region
  • Search for locations with four or more machines
  • Comment on a machine’s condition

February 12-14: BAM, Wurstfest, Zwickelmania, and Mardis Gras

February 11, 2010 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Wow, what weekend. I declare, if I were going to be in town I would, I would be sampling a bit of each and every one of the festivals listed below. Heather and I will be in Astoria, however, celebrating the second anniversary of the day we met (Valentines day 2008 – seriously!); a Zwickelmania visit to Fort George is on the agenda.

Oh, and Valentine’s Day is also Oregon’s 151st birthday!

BAMBeer and Movie Fest February 10-26

Taking place at theater pubs around town from February 10 through the 26, including The Academy Theater, Bagdad Theater, Cinema 21, and Mission Theater, the goal of BAM is to integrate two thriving industries, craft beer and Hollywood entertainment.

WurstfestWurstfest 2010 February 12-14

Dust off your Lederhosen, starch up your Dirndl and join the happy folk in Mount Angel for three fun days of celebration in honor of the WURST!

Wurstfest: A Celebration of German Sausage (pdf) returns to Mount Angel for a second year.

Wurstfest was dreamed up last year by the Bavarian-philes in Mount Angel, Oregon, home of Oregon’s largest Oktoberfest celebration every fall. Last year’s inaugural festival was so successful, they have brought it back again this year.

Zwickelmania
Zwickelmania February 13

President’s Day weekend means one thing in Oregon: Zwickelmania.

In the same spirit as Memorial Day Weekend winery open houses, breweries across the state open their doors for tours and samples on Saturday, February 13th from 11am to 4pm.

Mardi GrasMardi Gras on Historic Mississippi February 13, 16

Why wait until Tuesday? Celebrate Mardi Gras on Historic Mississippi Avenue, Saturday, February 13. . .

So yeah, Saturday’s Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, is decidedly “family-friendly”.

But return, sans children, to the Boise neighborhood on the real Fat Tuesday, February 16th for more fun . . .
