And in biggish news: Nigerian forward Gabriel Obatola, by way of Singapore, may have signed or may soon be signing a contract with the Timbers . . . or maybe not:
A Singapore website, The Electric New Paper, is reporting that the Timbers have signed 22 year old Nigerian Gabriel Obatola, a former Gombak United striker. The veracity of the report, however, is dubious as the article goes on to state he’s going to be in the MLS and has a two year contract with the Timbers. The latest news is that Gabriel Obatola is perhaps a trialst: The Game has learned that despite reports the Timbers have NOT signed Nigerian F Gabriel Obatola, but he will train with the team next week (via @strongatnight).

Mike Golub, who was officially announced as the Portland Timbers’ team chief operating officer on Tuesday, had a head start on his job.
