For the second year in a row, the U.S. Open Cup will feature a matchup of Pacific Northwest soccer rivals. This is not a reprint from 2009, although the teams and results are nearly identical this season. In the 2009 tournament, Portland advanced to face Seattle at PGE Park on July 1, 2009in the third round after defeating Kitsap in the first round, then Sonoma County in round two; for the 2010 tournament, Portland defeated a visiting Sonoma County team on June 15th before traveling to Bremerton, WA on June 22nd to face the Kitsap Pumas in round two. At stake was the right for the winner to host the Sounders on June 30th in round three. [more]

What a great 12 hours it was as Portland kicked off in Bremerton and got an impressive result against the Kitsap Pumas, to set up what we all were hoping for a battle against seattle in our house. The Timbers played some great football yesterday and made us all proud. Ross Smith has show prowess in the air, and used it to full effect to start the Timbers up. Then Dike had his coming out party and lit up Kitsap for the hat trick. This is now two wins in a row for the Timbers, something they have not done since the first two games of the season. [more]

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers return to league play Sunday as they play host to FC Tampa Bay Rowdies at PGE Park at 5 p.m. Sunday’s match is highlighted by the annual Timbers Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Stoel Rives, LLC, to benefit local charities.
As part of the Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Stoel Rives, LLC, fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to the match to be donated to local youth charities. Following the Timbers’ first goal of the night, fans are invited to toss their stuffed animal onto the pitch. Items will be collected and distributed throughout the greater-Portland area. [more]

The Portland Timbers have snagged 1,000 season ticket deposits over the past 10 days for their 2011 Major League Soccer inaugural season, according to Chris Metz, Vice President of Communications. The Timbers announced their MLS season ticket information last week, coinciding with the start of the 2010 World Cup, and what’s turned out to be a frenzy of U.S. soccer buzz as the mens team squeezed its way out of the first round of competition.
