The Portland Timbers, having won four of their last five matches, look to be returning to form. Still, until last weekend’s 2-0 defeat of Minnesota, the Timbers had not won a league match since April. Sunday night, with a 73rd minute goal by Bright Dike, they defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1-0 for their second league win in a row.

As Kip correctly points out above, there’s a big match Wednesday: the Portland Timbers host the MLS Seattle Sounders once again in a 3rd round Lamar Hunt US Open Cup matchup. The 2009 edition of this match took place almost a year ago to the day. And although the result for the Timbers was not as awesome as the tifo, a sellout crowd of 16,382 experienced a memorable evening.
And speaking of MLS, the latest news is that Timbers season ticket sales for 2011 are strong [I got mine yesterday, invoice #107!].
In Timbers MLS crest debacle news, Pitch Invasion‘s Tom Dunmore summarizes the compromises. I think I’m done with the controversy myself – I don’t like the new crest much, but it could have been far worse. [And no doubt in a few years, a return to the “retro” logo will be announced – it’s all about selling merchandise!]
And finally, an announcement: The randomly drawn winner of the Timbers vs. Manchester City match tickets giveaway is commenter rossh. Thanks for playing!
