Omsi Science PubI Dig Bones: Adventures in Forensic Anthropology is the topic of the November 16 2010 edition of OMSI Science Pub at the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan).

Ever want to know what happens when mysterious human remains are found in the woods? Ever wondered how bodies are identified, even after death and decomposition? Dr. Vance will also highlight the importance of DNA analysis in bringing closure to families of missing persons throughout the nation and what you can do to help.

This Science Pub will be presented by Dr. Veronica “Nici” Vance from the Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory and the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. I got a look inside the press box this morning; it currently sits in a state that I’d describe as “gutted” as it awaits refurbishing.

The floor plan of the press boxes will stay essentially the same, with a couple of coaches rooms added (per MLS code) to join the various radio, TV and control rooms. [more]

We won’t be splurging on a new one like those featured at the RV Show, but we hope to get an idea of the size and features we’ll eventually budget for. [more]

Our Back Fence Storytelling event is the kissing cousin to San Francisco’s Porchlight Storytelling Series. Your storytellers:

CHRIS THOMPSON – Personal Assistant for a Famous Romance Novelist

RICHARD LEFEVBRE – Hot Rod Builder & Filmmaker

MOLLY NORTON – Friend of Bob Barker

HUY PHAM – DJ & Breakdancer

BEN Z SAMPLES – Professional Eavesdropper

KATRINA SCOTTO di CARLO – Co-Creator of Supportland

Reserve your tickets now to guarantee yourself a seat – tickets are $14 at the door. The venue is the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan), and the show is 21 and over only. Doors will open at 6pm for food and drink, and Back Fence begins at 7:30pm. As usual free cupcakes from Saint Cupcake made the rounds at intermissions!
