Join host Moe Bowstern for a special Night with Fisher Poets at The Jack London Bar (529 SW 4th) tonight, Tuesday, September 27, 2011.
Fisher Poetry comes from experiences living and working in the commercial fishing industry. Poet styles range from funny fast-moving free verse, to soulful literary prose to songs, short stories, personal memoirs and essays.
Moe Bowstern is the editor of Xtra Turf, a zine which chronicles the experiences and adventures of commercial fisher folk in Alaska and beyond. She appears annually at Astoria’s Fisher Poets Gathering, and has performed around the country.
Readers include Kodiak fisherwoman Lara Messersmith-Glavin, and Tim Griffey, a Bristol Bay gilnetter/setnetter.
Admission is a mere $3. Doors open at 5pm – arrive early for a good seat! Show starts at 7pm. Full bar and food menu available. Visit the Facebook event page for more details.
