Cascadia Match Day: Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps (26-May-2012)

May 26, 2012 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Portland TimbersThe Portland Timbers (3-5-3) play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps (5-3-3) at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The match will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports, 750 AM The Game, and La Pantera 940 AM.

Hard to believe, but the Timbers are undefeated in May, with two 0-0 draws and last weekend’s 2-1 defeat of the Chicago Fire – they haven’t lost at home since the 2-1 defeat by Chivas on April 7. Vancouver lost to Toronto FC on Wednesday, and last Saturday they drew 2-2 with the other Cascadian rivals at BMO Field in Vancouver.

This should be an interesting match between a Timbers team that still struggles to score goals, but has perhaps caught a glimpse of daylight recently; and a Vancouver team much improved over last year’s team, but no doubt exhausted, having played seven matches already in the month of May.

In addition to jockeying for position on the conference table, both teams tonight are aiming for the 2012 Cascadia Cup. Only one match has been played in the competition so far this year, last weekend’s 2-2 draw between the Whitecaps and Seattle.

Village Building Convergence 2012The 12th annual Village Building Convergence (VBC), a ten-day placemaking festival that combines crowdsourced activism, creative community development, hands-on education and celebration, takes place in Portland from May 25 through June 3, 2012.

We will come together to create benches, community kiosks, gardens, street paintings, tile mosaics, and more! Come join your neighbors as they bring to life the natural building, permaculture, and public art projects that they’ve been planning. Learn valuable skills for urban sustainability and social regeneration while celebrating the creativity and diversity of our wonderful city!

This event is hosted by City Repair, an organized group action that educates and inspires communities and individuals to creatively transform the places where they live.

During the day, participants have the opportunity to participate, for free, in creative, community designed placemaking projects all over town.

Speakers, presentations, and food fill the evenings – Tickets are available at the door (the central venue is St. David’s of Wales at 2800 SE Harrison).

Download the The Village Builder event guide, and visit the Village Building Convergence website for more project and event details.
