August 21, 2011 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

You guys, we made a t-shirt!

I Love Portland t-shirt

By we, I mean my lovely wife Heather created the design and our friends at Astoria Screen Printing printed the shirts.

And we’re selling this limited run (we only have two dozen) for cheap – $18 each (plus $3 shipping).

The Port and Company shirts are heavyweight (6.1 ounce) 100% cotton (preshrunk) in Dill Green. The graphic is dark green – the proof above is a pretty darn good representation of the final product.

To order, select your size below and click Buy Now (you can change quantities on the next screen) – thanks for supporting Dave Knows Portland!

SOLD OUT!

I hearty thanks to all the buyers – new design coming soon!

Other Things To Do In Portland On Super Bowl Sunday (2011)

February 2, 2011 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

The American secular holiday known as Super Bowl Sunday takes place this Sunday, February 6, 2011. What is the America-football apostate supposed to do on this day? Let me help you find your way.

Sunday will be a good day to enjoy parks; museums; and pubs, taverns, and bars (like Hall of Records – Sunday is Soul Night!) that don’t have TVs – they’ll all be almost empty.

Crowds will certainly be thinner at the Oregon Zoo.

OMSIAs it’s the first Sunday of the month, OMSI only costs $2 to get in! (But be forewarned – it will be very crowded; Heather and I visited last year on Super Bowl Sunday and had a great time, but were unpleasantly surprised by the crowds of kids. Apparently cheap admission prices trumps Super Bowl for many parents.)

Update: Commenter Paula has a contribution:

The Bach Cantata Choir will be performing at 2 pm on Super Bowl Sunday. The concert is FREE and will be held at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church, 1907 NE 45th Ave (NE Sandy & 45th). The program includes Bach & Handel choral music and a Vivaldi trumpet concerto.

Bargain Hunting 2011If you’re in a shopping mood, visit the Crystal Ballroom and Lola’s Room (1332 W Burnside) for Bargain Hunting 101‘s mother of all clearance sales:

Bargain Hunting is the Mother of All Clearance Sales, but what does that really mean? It means that you can expect to find some of the most unique, one of a kind, limited runs and close outs discounts from handmade indie artists and local boutiques. In other words, Bargain Hunting has highly desirable merchandise at prices you NEVER find on this type of inventory.

And of course Powell’s Books (1005 W Burnside) is open.

Really, the world is your oyster if you’re free from the clutches of the NFL on Super Bowl Sunday.

Share your own Super Bowl Sunday alternative events and activities in the comments below!
