How is it possible that PDX Beer Week continues? Beer Week in Portland, my friends, is 10 days long! And you won’t want to miss the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival at Oaks Park, and the opening of OHS’s new exhibit Saturday, and lots more!

Portland’s official LGBTQ Pride Parade and Festival, Portland Pride, takes place Friday, June 15 through 17, 2012. The Portland Pride Parade takes place Sunday, June 17 downtown – kicking off at 11:30 a.m.

The 84th annual Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival takes place Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Oaks Park.

Scandinavians have a long tradition of celebrating the Summer Solstice with bonfires or raising of the Maypole (Majstång). Here in Portland that tradition is being celebrated for 84 continuous years at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. [more]

Oregon VoicesOregon Voices: Change and Challenge in Modern Oregon History – Public Opening

OHS is opening its doors for free on Saturday, June 16. Explore the exhibit’s interactive areas with theatre instructor Morgan Cox. At 1 PM, listen to historian and author Bill Robbins’ talk, “Reflections on Modern Oregon.” After learning about Oregon’s natural resources, kids can decorate their own backpack and fill it with fun tools for exploring Oregon’s great outdoors! OMSI After DarkBeans of the Gods: Coffee & Cacao is the delicious theme of this month’s OMSI After Dark, on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

Qahwa, kahve, koffie–Fragrant bean of all that is worth waking up for on this wildly orbiting orb, I prostrate myself before thee, not ever to rise until your steaming elixir passes my lips.

Yup, it’s time for another child-free night at OMSI, and there’s alcohol!

Visit the OMSI Cafe for special menu items, and bring cash (only!) for the beer and wine at the bars set up throughout the museum.

Featured science demonstrations and activities include Oh That Heavenly Aroma…, Candy Coated Chromatography, and What’s In That Drink? Coffee, spirits, chocolate, and beer vendors will be on hand.

Hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $12 for non-members, $6 for members. You can buy tickets online, or at the door (no reservations necessary). 21 and over only!

The museum offers free admission ever fourth Friday (5 p.m.- 8 p.m.) of the month, so if you can’t make it this week, mark June 22, 2012 on your calendar!

Regular adult admission is $12 ($9 for seniors 55 and up and college students, 18 and up, with ID; free admission for children up to 17).
