From today’s True Hoop‘s Tuesday Bullets:

Turquoise sweatsuit? Check. Mini boombox on your belt? Check.

Trailblazer Channing Frye recently acquired a 65 Lincoln Continental convertible.

Fans are relieved he’s taken a different tack than former Blazer Darius Miles.

Dave’s Rosebuds: the inaugural edition

eraserhead150×150.jpgSometimes I find things I would like to share, but they don’t warrant their own blog post, or I don’t have the time at the moment to flesh one out. Lately I’ve been dealing with this by not posting, but I think I’ve stumbled upon a better solution. I’m a fan of Shawn Levy’s Mad About Movies blog, and every Friday he rolls out some orts:

(ort — noun; Middle English, from Middle Low German orte; a morsel left at a meal, a scrap; a Friday staple at Mad About Movies)

In the tradition of the Mad About Movies Friday Orts, I introduce the soon to be semi-regular Dave’s Rosebuds, my handpicked Portland-related orts:

  • Speaking of Rosebuds, the eponymous Portland hockey team was the first US team to play for the Stanley Cup
  • Best hair and industrial noise on film this weekend at the NW Film Center
  • Poppy Portland band Eux Autres digs soccer
  • Does this mean cyclists will stop blocking my crosswalk?
  • Break out your Pendleton: next Saturday is the Plaid and Proud LumberJax opener
  • Portland’s barefoot skateboarder already dresses like a lumberjack
  • Former Oregonlive Blazers Blog blogger Casey Holdahl now holds official Center Court for the Blazers

Some observations from a Blazer win

  • The guys who sang the national anthem appeared to be high on something, my guess is coke. And the lead guy is not a very good singer. (The best national anthem so far this year was performed by Jeffrey Phillip Wiedlandt.)
  • Stephen Jackson really is crazy. Great player though, just not last night. Think Ruben Patterson with an outside shot.
  • Brandon Roy is unstoppable. You have to defend him straight up because, in any direction at any time, he can spin or twirl or step out and shoot or make the great pass. I would dread having to guard him.
  • Baron Davis is unstoppable. Like a Jarret Jack with the shoulders of Karl Malone.
  • Speaking of Jarret Jack, he’s my favorite Blazer. For a guard, he’s a solid (45%), if not spectacular, shooter, who tailors his game, whether his shot is falling or not, to the current needs of the team. Last night, it wasn’t falling (2-8 on the night), but he epitomized smart, unselfish play, dishing out 6 assists (most, if not all, in the second half). Other nights he epitomizes tough nosed play or hustle play; whatever the team needs. He’s also got that sour grimace that tells you he means business.
  • Przybilla’s sieve-like hands were un-sieve-like last night; best game I’ve seen him play since opening night. His one assist, a beautiful give and go and give to Roy, made my day.
