Kick Ass Oregon History

February 28, 2011 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Kick Ass Oregon HistoryKick Ass Oregon History, the latest series of podcasts from the enthusiastic historians behind ORHistory.com debuts on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

With the Kick Ass Oregon History podcast they plan to cover just the good stuff: Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll and Earth Shattering, Devastating Destruction.

I have inside information on the topic of episode #1, and though I’ve been asked to be coy about it, what I will say is that the series will begin with a bang!

[Update: Episode 1 is available here: The Roseburg Blast]

The brains behind this project are the crack hustlers of Oregon History Doug Kenck-Crispin and Andy Lindberg. Doug is a graduate student studying Public History and Pacific Northwest History at PSU, and Andy, though a Portland native, is currently working as an actor in New York City. Doug does most of the research and writing for the podcasts with input from Andy, who voices the broadcasts with a thespian’s flair.

Why do they do this?

Ultimately, our goal is to take Oregon History out of the hallowed halls of the academy, get folks excited and enthused about this shared history, and get them out into the state, digging it and experiencing it. Get them to embrace it, and get their boots muddy in the process. It’s all OUR History; nobody owns it.

Visit ORHistory.com and stay tuned to @Oregon_History on Twitter for further details on specific episodes and the series. Episode One should be available mid-morning on the website March 1st.

Tuesday Timbers Tidbits (1-February-2011)

TimbersThe Portland Timbers are off to California for more training, where they will be joined by a collection of intriguing players: Estonian international midfielder Alo Bärengrub, El Salvador forward Andres Flores, and Colombian forward Jorge Perlaza. The latter trialist apparently being the long rumored mystery forward.

2010 USL Timbers midfield Rodrigo Lopez is also in attendance, along with 2010 Timbers U-23 keeper and New Zealander Jake Gleeson.

Speaking of New Zealanders, Gavin Wilkinson explains his New Zealand bias and shares his hope to someday return to New Zealand to coach the national team with the NZ Herald News.

Coach Spencer does not like the phrase expansion team.

Meanwhile, the Portland Timbers’ marketing efforts continue to draw attention, this time from the Footiebusiness blog.

Don’t forget: Timbers Army First Thursday is this Thursday, February 3, 2011.

Also remember mao’s Football Show airs live Tuesdays at 4pm and new Portland Timbers related podcast Shed Culture with Hermes airs Thursdays at 4pm on Cascadia.FM.

Tuesday Timbers Tidbits (18-January-2011)

January 18, 2011 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersWith the draft dust nearly settled the Portland Timbers must complete building the roster largely with talent they discover or can entice from somewhere else. In that vein the Timbers just announced officially they have signed Kenny Cooper.

The long rumored move brings to Portland a forward named to the MLS Best XI in 2008. In 90 regular season MLS matches with FC Dallas from 2006 through 2008, Cooper scored 40 goals and served up 10 assists. He spent the last two years in Germany playing for TSV 1860 München in 2.Bundesliga, where the 26 year old scored 3 goals in 15 appearances. This looks likely to be a major win for the Timbers, and the MLS.

Meanwhile it seems less and less likely the Timber will be able to entice US National Team player Robbie Findley into the fold anytime soon (the Timbers own in MLS rights), as he has officially been granted a work permit in the UK where he had signed with Nottingham Forest.

There is one more draft in the seemingly endless string of MLS drafts, and it takes place today: the 2011 MLS Supplement. Portland picks 2nd, 12th, 20th and 38th.

Tune into mao’s Football Show today on Cascadia.fm at 4pm for discussions on the latest Timbers and international soccer news, including final thoughts on the 2011 MLS Super Draft. Also check out the MLS Super Draft day interview with mao and Nevets at Dropping Timber!

Also check out the latest Popinski Presents podcast. Today’s show was The Super Draft Special. Superdraft Special! No Music. Just Superdraft commentary.

Suck It™ Gets Sirius XM

January 12, 2011 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Suck It and SiriusSuck It™ Newsletter #02 (sent to Suck It™ Junkies) revealed yesterday that big changes are afoot for Robert Wagner and Sabrina Miller, beloved local internet radio hosts and producers at Cascadia.FM.

At the end of 2010 it was revealed Suck It™ was the subject of a syndication deal with a terrestrial broadcasting company, but that deal has been nixed:

We’re pleased to announce via this newsletter that we’ll be joining the ranks of Sirius XM instead beginning June 1, 2011 and will be providing that network with 4 hours of exclusive content every weekday – that’s 20 full hours for the mathematically challenged – and, unlike many other Sirius XM (ahem) personalities, the kind folks at Sirius have agreed to allow us to continue creating our one hour podcast each day as well.

Holy crap, I can’t imagine doing anything for 5 hours a day, every day, except sleeping, but then Robert and Sabrina have exceptional talent and perseverance, as we’ve seen the past few years on Portland Sucks and Suck It™. Congrats to them. As a fan (and stockholder in Sirius XM!), I’m confident of and excited for their success.

Meanwhile, we can continue listening to Suck It™ weekdays at 9am!

The Cort and Fatboy/Funemployment Radio Giant Size Crossover #2Cort and Fatboy celebrate 364 days without a corporate firing with Funemployment Radio‘s Greg Nibler and Sarah X. Dylan on Friday, October 22nd at 10am on Cascadia.FM, it’s the The Cort and Fatboy/Funemployment Radio Giant Size Crossover #2 show!

Friday’s special 2 part show (part 1 airs 10am-11, part 2 will be available for download on FunemploymentRadio.com later in the day) . . .

. . . will likely include behind-the-curtains tales of life in the belly of the monolithic beast that is corporate radio, along with equal parts of the typical brand of pop-culture comedy from Cort and Fatboy, and the mildly-inebriated charm and wit of Greg and Sarah.

Both Portland-based shows have steadily increased their audience over the past year, and consistently rank among the top 100 comedy podcasts on iTunes.
