Happy Blogiversary to Me – Dave Knows Turns 6!

June 22, 2013 by Dave Leave a Comment

Dave Knows Portland ButtonToday, June 22, 2013, is the 6th anniversary of my very first blog post here at Dave Knows.

Though the blog hasn’t exactly been going gangbusters this past year (you can thank these little guys), it is still limping along. In fact this post you’re reading right now is #3000 [Ed.: Holy shit!].

Thank you for reading over the years, and please do stick around – I still have some blogging left in me!

The Portland Loo Gets Some LA Times Love

August 29, 2012 by Dave Leave a Comment

Mike Vogel and the LooThe Portland Loo continues to impress, this time in the LA Times: Portland Loo, a public toilet that skips to the head of its class

Pity the lowly public toilet, a redolent reminder of the failure of the best minds in urban planning to address the most fundamental of daily necessities.

Millions have been invested in the facilities for collective relief. Often, they have become targets for graffiti, trash-can fires, furtive needle activity, commercial lovemaking, emergency baths, laundries for the homeless, and repositories of castoff diapers.

Go to any city in America and ask whether it has fixed the public toilet problem, and most any city in America will hold its nose.

Except Portland.

Read the rest to find out how other cities are importing Randy Leonard’s vision. For more on the Portland Loo, visit the website, Facebook page, and follow @PortlandLoo on Twitter!

Happy Birthday Dear Blog: Dave Knows Portland Turns 5!

June 22, 2012 by Dave 5 Comments

Whew, five years ago today I started this blog – with a post about beer of course!

2,746 posts later I’m still not bored with it, so as long as you’re all still paying attention, I think I’ll keep going.

Though I expect beer, the Timbers, and Fairs and Festivals will continue to dominate the coverage here, soon you may see a bit more of an emphasis on family-friendly activities – as many of you know my wife Heather and I are expecting twin boys. When they arrive [soon!], please forgive the inevitably less rigorous posting schedule – I’ve been told babies take up a lot of time . . . But don’t worry, I have no intentions to abandon the blog (nor turn it into a baby blog).

Thanks for reading!

I Love Portland: The Dave Knows T-Shirt!

August 21, 2011 by Dave Leave a Comment

You guys, we made a t-shirt!

I Love Portland t-shirt

By we, I mean my lovely wife Heather created the design and our friends at Astoria Screen Printing printed the shirts.

And we’re selling this limited run (we only have two dozen) for cheap – $18 each (plus $3 shipping).

The Port and Company shirts are heavyweight (6.1 ounce) 100% cotton (preshrunk) in Dill Green. The graphic is dark green – the proof above is a pretty darn good representation of the final product.

To order, select your size below and click Buy Now (you can change quantities on the next screen) – thanks for supporting Dave Knows Portland!

SOLD OUT!

I hearty thanks to all the buyers – new design coming soon!

Dave Knows Turns 4!

June 22, 2011 by Dave 4 Comments

Dave Knows Turns 4 - rocking the birthday hat Unicorn-style!Dave Knows Portland was launched four years ago today – that was one thousand, nine hundred, and thirteen posts ago!

That first post was about beer, which was a harbinger of things to come – the most popular blog post categories over the years (and I’m still not bored of them) are beer, the Timbers, and festival. But I’ve written about everything from eating contests to Canada too. A few categories have actually spawned their own websites – as long time readers know, I’m obsessed with quite fond of poutine, which I now blog about at Portland Poutine. More recently I launched Portland Soccer Bars and TriMet Diaries.

But ultimately, Dave Knows Portland is my home. Heck, I don’t actually live in Portland right now, but I’m still (healthily?) obsessed with what’s going in Portland – both to benefit you, my dear reader, and myself – for I’m still spending a lot of time in Portland (almost every other weekend it seems).

But ultimately on the occasion of the fourth birthday of this blog, I would like to thank you – for making it worth writing.

Thanks for reading, commenting, linking, and lurking – there’d be no point without you!
