Cascadia Match Day: Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps (26-May-2012)

May 26, 2012 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Portland TimbersThe Portland Timbers (3-5-3) play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps (5-3-3) at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The match will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports, 750 AM The Game, and La Pantera 940 AM.

Hard to believe, but the Timbers are undefeated in May, with two 0-0 draws and last weekend’s 2-1 defeat of the Chicago Fire – they haven’t lost at home since the 2-1 defeat by Chivas on April 7. Vancouver lost to Toronto FC on Wednesday, and last Saturday they drew 2-2 with the other Cascadian rivals at BMO Field in Vancouver.

This should be an interesting match between a Timbers team that still struggles to score goals, but has perhaps caught a glimpse of daylight recently; and a Vancouver team much improved over last year’s team, but no doubt exhausted, having played seven matches already in the month of May.

In addition to jockeying for position on the conference table, both teams tonight are aiming for the 2012 Cascadia Cup. Only one match has been played in the competition so far this year, last weekend’s 2-2 draw between the Whitecaps and Seattle.

Match Day: Portland Timbers vs. Chicago Fire (20-May-2012)

May 20, 2012 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Portland TimbersThe Portland Timbers (2-5-3) host the Chicago Fire (4-2-3) at Jeld-Wen Field today, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 4 p.m.

The match will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports, 750 AM The Game, and La Pantera 940 AM.

Timbers are coming off consecutive draws against mediocre Houston and Columbus teams, while the Fire beat a tough (though currently struggling) Sporting KC last week, and drew with top-of-the-table Real Salt Lake the week before. Last season, however, the Timbers had the Fire’s number, defeating them 4-2 in Portland and 1-0 at Chicago. This is the only regular season meeting between these two teams this year.

Match Day: Portland Timbers vs. Columbus Crew (5-May-2012)

May 5, 2012 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Portland TimbersThe still flailing Portland Timbers (2-5-1) host the almost equally inept Columbus Crew (2-4-1) at Jeld-Wen Field this Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

The match will be broadcast live on KPTV 12, Freedom 970, and La Pantera 940 AM.

The big question is which Timbers team will show up – the giant killers who defeated top of the table Kansas City two weeks ago, or the pathetic and uninspired Timbers who fell apart at Montreal last weekend.
